What we publish, and what we send back.
Written plainly so you can decide before you write, and so we are not making judgment calls you could not have anticipated.
What we accept
Announcements from operating businesses about things that have actually happened or are definitely about to: product and service launches, funding, expansion, new locations, leadership changes, partnerships, research and data releases, events, awards and certifications.
We have no minimum company size and no sector restriction beyond the declines listed below. A two-person firm opening a second location is a legitimate announcement.
What we decline
These are categorical. We refund rather than negotiate.
- Investment solicitations. Securities offerings, token sales, or anything inviting the public to put money in.
- Health and treatment claims. Statements about medical outcomes, efficacy or suitability. Describing a service is fine; promising a result is not.
- Adult content, gambling and regulated substances.
- Claims about named third parties we cannot verify. If your announcement says something about a competitor, a former employee or another company, we need to be able to check it.
- Political campaign material.
- Announcements whose real purpose is a link. If the news is thin and the link is the point, we will say so.
- Anything we believe to be untrue. Including things we simply cannot confirm where the claim is load-bearing.
What gets sent back for revision
These are not declines. They are things we will ask you to fix, and at the Optimized and Network tiers we will usually fix them with you.
Common revision requests
- Superlatives that cannot be substantiated — “best”, “leading”, “number one” without a source
- Statistics with no attribution
- Quotations attributed to a company rather than a person
- No date, or a date that contradicts the content
- Announcements with no discernible news in them
- Contact information that does not resolve to the issuing organization
- Anything over 1,400 words
How everything here is labeled
Every release on this wire carries a label above the headline reading Paid announcement, stating that the issuing organization paid to publish it, that it is their own statement, and that we did not independently verify it. The label is permanent. It cannot be removed, reduced or bought out at any tier or any price.
We do this because the US Federal Trade Commission expects paid content sitting in an editorial-looking format to be clearly and conspicuously identified as paid, and because a reader deserves to know what they are reading. If a wire lets you pay to look like news, it is not protecting you — it is exposing you.
Releases from businesses we operate
Press Release For Business is operated by Eye To Ad Media, which also operates several businesses that publish announcements here. Those releases carry an additional ownership disclosure naming that relationship.
They are held to the same editorial standard as everyone else’s and get no placement advantage. We disclose it because not disclosing it would be the kind of thing we criticize other people for.
What we will not publish, regardless of payment
- Health, medical, financial, investment, legal or earnings claims a reader could act on to their detriment.
- Testimonials or results presented as typical outcomes.
- Guarantees of any outcome we or you cannot control.
- Claims about a named competitor.
- Announcements of things that have not happened and are not definitely about to.
- Content where the organization issuing it is not the organization it concerns, unless the relationship is stated in the release.
Labeling and links
Every release published here carries a visible notice at the top identifying it as an announcement issued by the named organization rather than reporting by this publication. That label is permanent and is not removable at any price.
Outbound links inside paid announcements carry the attributes search engines expect for sponsored content. We do not sell following links and we do not represent this service as link building.
Corrections and removal
If a published release contains a factual error, tell us and we will correct it. Material corrections are noted at the foot of the release with the date. We do not quietly edit a published document to remove an error.
If circumstances change and you need a release taken down, contact us. We will generally do it, though we may leave a note at the URL rather than returning a dead link.
Accuracy is yours
We review announcements against these guidelines. We are not in a position to verify every factual claim a business makes about itself, and our review is not a warranty that your statements are true. You are responsible for the accuracy of what you ask us to publish, and the release is attributed to you for exactly that reason.
